Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust
Sri Arunodayam is a Chennai-based NGO that provides lifelong care and rehabilitation for abandoned children with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 2002, it runs safe homes, special education, therapies, and vocational training so children grow with dignity and the skills to live as independently as possible.
Why Sri Arunodayam stands out
They work end-to-end—rescue and admission (with state child-protection systems), trauma-informed care, special school & therapies, family reintegration where possible, vocational training, and after-care for young adults with ID. This continuum reduces drop-offs and keeps support consistent as children become adults.
Vision & Mission
Protect the rights and dignity of abandoned children with intellectual disability and provide the environment, education, and care needed for their full development.
What they do
-
Residential care & protection for abandoned children, in coordination with government systems.
-
Special education & therapies (physio, speech/OT), with individualized plans.
-
Vocational skilling (Prayatna) for older children and young adults.
-
After-care pathways and dedicated spaces for young adults.
Where they work
Headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with an after-care campus near Tiruttani (Tiruvallur District).
Projects CGI could support
After-Care Facility for Young Adults with ID (CAPEX)
What it is: Build out a purpose-designed after-care home that provides supported living, continued therapies, and work-readiness for young adults transitioning out of child care.
CGI scope & cost: ₹2,00,00,000 (₹2 crore) for core civil works, fittings, therapy rooms, accessible design features, safety systems, and initial equipment.
Why it matters: After 18, many young adults lose access to child-care entitlements; without structured after-care, safety and skills can regress. A dedicated facility maintains continuity and independence goals.
How we can engage in
-
Fund the After-Care Facility (milestone-based tranches).
-
Sponsor therapy equipment, assistive devices, or vocational labs.
-
Support the corpus fund for stable, long-term care.
